The Democratic Candidate Lisa Brown for the 5th Congressional District has a new TV add up. The spot is about GOP Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ repeated votes over the years to repeal the Affordable Healthcare (ObamaCare). The congresswoman McMorris Rodgers broke her pledge not to scrap Obamacare until there was a replacement. One woman says her insurance “has gone up to $2,000 a month” because of McMorris.
These are the kind of messages that will hurt McMorris. Sure immigration policy and global warming are really, really important. However, for swing voters, health care is still one of their top concerns. Progressives need to keep on message.

This does not surprise me. From what I have heard about the management at Deaconess Hospital, Spokane, WA, and their Hospital in the Valley, Community Health Systems should have had a complaint filed at them sooner.
The hospitals in Spokane owned by non-profits don’t seem to have these problems. We should never forget the value of the labor movement our capitalist economy. Read the rest of this entry
While employees have been working for a good part a year without a contract, the upper management at Spokane Valley Hospital and Spokane Deaconess Hospital have agreed to a bargaining date. This Friday, March 21, Nurses, cleaning staff, and other medical workers represented by SEIU local will be negotiating with Tennessee-based Community Health Systems that manages the Hospitals. One of the most important issues is what staffing levels are needed to insure patients at Valley and Deaconess Hospitals are adequately protected from falls, infections, and other problems that prevent speedy recoveries and long-term health. The Labor Union is insisting that higher staffing levels are needed to protect patient health.
Candidate for Governor, Jay Inslee, recently spoke to community leaders in Spokane. Jay Inslee placed an emphasis on job creation and matching our educational system to the needs of the work force in Washington State. As a U.S. Congressman, Jay helped create millions of jobs accross the country through his vote for the Stimulus Bill. An example right here in Spokane County, is the Demand Energy Project in Liberty Lake.
Spokane is the major city in Eastern Washington. For a century, it has been a cultural, economic, and political hub of the Inland Northwest. It was once a railroad town. However, the trains are now few. Our economy has become more centered on light industry and the information economy.
We held the World's Fair in the 70s, and we still host Hoopfest, Pigout in the Park, and the Lilac Festival. If you like small town's that feel big. You will like Spokane.
